Mercedes Schlapp's job in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't an easy one. She has to deal with a president who serves as his own communications director and a myriad of legal disputes which could disrupt the administration's messaging strategy and a number of Cabinet secretaries ensnared in their own controversy. Schlapp is, however, never lost focus on her mission. She collaborates closely together with White House political affairs and committees on legislation and policy shops and the overall communications team to ensure that the policies are implemented. In the beginning, she is focusing on safety at school problems, addiction, infrastructure and international trade. She does not interact much with the media in her role. She gained attention in the wake of being announced as the candidate to succeed Hope Hicks, the communications director. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job in her role as White House's advisor on strategic communications. The White House's strategist's adviser to communications must contend numerous legal issues that may affect the communications policy of the administration along with Cabinet secretaries involved in scandals of their own. But through it all Schlapp has stayed determined to focus on her task in hand and has worked closely with White House's policy and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as well with the larger communications team to coordinate policy rollouts. To date, her focus has been issues such as security in schools as well as the opioid epidemic infrastructure, trade, as well as other topics. Her current work doesn't have any contact with journalists. She garnered some attention after her name was mentioned as a potential candidate for the job of succeeding Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. It's been a nasty fight. Schlapp's allies fought with Tony Sayegh on the news. Schlapp stated to that the Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh about an article that had been published in the past on him.
